The Community in The Giver is very different from our own. The Giver explains to Jonas that the Elders gave up color and choice when they chose Sameness. Jonas agrees and admits, "We really have to protect people from wrong choices" (99). Imagine that you are Jonas and are writing to the Elders asking them to allow people to make more of their own decisions. How would you argue for color, or for the chance to choose your own spouse and job? Do your best to convince them to get rid of Sameness!

ReplyDeleteI think that you should make the world how it used to be. We need to get rid of sameness. What is bad about color? When you get rid of color, you make the world boring. When you make the world boring, it changes peoples attitudes. It makes them feel sad. You need to give the people choices. If they make the wrong decision, it's part of life. They can make up for it with a later decision. In conclusion, you need to change the world back to what it used to be.

ReplyDeleteI think that Sameness should be thrown out. The Community would be better off without it. Why, because people should make their own decisions. Why is color banned? Should people's lives be boring? Is that your idea of a 'utopia'? Are decisions bad? Why are there none? I understand that they can be bad, but decisions can be made up for by hard work and perseverance and, you can learn from your bad decisions. Change the Community back.
I will be waiting for answers.

Dear Elders I think you should get rid of sameness. The community would be better off if people could see color. Without color the world just gets really boring. Why are decisions bad? Why is color bad? so I think you should change the communities back to the way they were. I will be waiting for answers.
